How Do I File a Social Security Disability Claim?
by Jim Abernathy
If you need to file a Social Security Disability Application, then please contact Abernathy Disability Law for assistance in filing your application. Mr. Abernathy would prefer to be involved from the very beginning of your case, when possible. He does not charge a fee for an initial consultation, and many times your application can be filed during that meeting. If you need to file an SSI application, Mr. Abernathy cannot file that application for you, but it would still be beneficial to discuss your case with him from the beginning. If you choose to file your application on your own, there are several options available.
One way you can start the process is by calling or visiting a local social security office. If you visit the local social security office, you will likely have to wait in line for quite a while. If you call the local office on the telephone, you will likely encounter a busy signal. I do not recommend this method. A better method is to call the national social security phone number. While I do not recommend using this number for any other purpose, I do recommend this as a good way to get the application process started. The national phone number is 1-800-772-1213. People who are comfortable using the internet may wish to file their application online. To do this, simply go to the Social Security Administration's website and follow the instructions found on the homepage. However, SSI applications may not be filed online. They must be filed either in person or over the telephone.
